They are part of the Apolis: Bangladesh Project and made by local atisans in Saidpur, Bangladesh. We are excited to partner with Apolis on these bags and help aid in their mission of "Advocacy Through Industry" which provide life changing opportunities for artisans in Saidpur, Bangladesh.
What is the Apolis: Bangladesh Project?
Every time someone purchases a reusable Apolis Market bag, they're directly supporting the Bangladesh Project. Since 2009, Apolis has partnered with Saidpur Enterprises, a co-op of over 100 Bangladeshi Artisans, to help build an international market for the elegant and resilient bags the co-op produces.
Not only does the co-op provide fair wage jobs for Bangladeshi women, it also contributes a portion of its profits to social and educational projects in t he community of Saidpur. Most recently, the co-op purchased school supplies for over 400 local children, and they are currently working with them to help build the Bangladesh Sewing Academy. The Sewing Academy will teach job skills to local women in order to help them provide for their families.
So far the project has sold over 184,000 units and provide 2172 days of work for 21 Artisans.
